The original Addams Family series was blessed with one of the most memorable themes in television history, courtesy of Vic Mizzy, one of television's most prolific composers.
For The New Addams Family, the producers considered reviving Mizzy's classic original series theme, in the form of the version performed by Strait Vocalz for Addams Family Reunion. Eventually it was decided to use a unique composition, in order to give the show a different identity. Snatches of Mizzy's theme were, however, worked into the incidental compositions of the show's early episodes, though were generally replaced with other music for repeats and overseas broadcast.
The lyrics to the new theme song are reproduced below. Whilst it is an entirely new composition, it does feature a few subtle nods to the original, notably the phonetic "snap, snap" line. The original mix did not feature the cast, who added their vocals at a later date. The earlier, unused version can be heard at the Fox Family Channel website, as part of their Pugsley's Cannon Shot game. Certain episodes feature slightly different mixes of the theme, favouring different lines and effects.
