Thing is nothing more than a hand. He has been Gomez' companion and friend since childhood. Tapping out Morse code messages allows him to communicate with the family. One of Thing's favourite chores is collecting the mail and bringing it to the drawing room when the foghorn signals its arrival. For the dance sessions that frequently take place in the house, Thing plays either the castanets or the tambourine. He occasionally turns the pages for Lurch at the harpsichord and is unofficially engaged to Lady Fingers.

Steven Fox appears as Thing, the disembodied hand of the Addams Family home.  Fox's dexterity extends far beyond Thing's antics, and he cites ice skating, handball, rock climbing, judo, water polo, soccer, hockey and football amongst his many hobbies.  Fox is currently a student of aviation and juggled his education with the role of Thing. He was offered the role on the strength of some semi-professional modelling jobs he had undertaken to help pay his study overheads.
