Other Characters: Quentin Collins 1970 Parallel Time, Quentin Collins 1840, Quentin Collins 1841 Parallel Time Quentin Collins, Charles Collins Night of Dark Shadows

The spoilt and selfish younger brother of Edward Collins, Quentin is initially an unredeemed character, misogynistic and manipulative, content to use his physical and mental charms to seduce and manipulate those around him. It is through his callous abandonment of his first wife Jenny to elope with his brother's wife Laura that his downfall begins, ending in the dual curse of becoming the werewolf when a full moon shines, and later of eternal life without love. It is through these ordeals that Quentin finally learns the virtues of humility and compassion, though too late to find personal redemption of his own.

David Selby was born on 5 February 1941, in Morgantown, West Virginia. He initially studied at Business College, but lost interest, choosing instead to pursue acting as a goal. Showing an aptitude for theatre from an early age, he eventually studied it at PhD level at Southern Illinois University, though left before his dissertation was complete, relocating to New York. Selby's dissertation involved the history of the American Place Theatre in New York, so presumably proximity to the subject matter was helpful. He later completed his course of study and his dissertation and defense at Southern Illinois University and holds a PhD from their theatre department. By 1968, Selby was ready to take a teaching job in Brooklyn, when a casting call from Dark Shadows intervened.

Following Dark Shadows, he relocated to Los Angeles, where he continues to reside. There, he worked extensively in episodic television and film. His television credits include Flamingo Road, Kojak, Police Woman, The Waltons, The Night Rider, Love for Rent, King of the Olympics: The Lives and Loves of Avery Brundage, Falcon Crest, Touched by an Angel and more recently Soldiers of Fortune, Inc/Special Ops Force, Thieves and Ally McBeal. Selby's film credits include Up the Sandbox, Raise the Titanic, Rich and Famous, Intersection, Headless Body in a Topless Bar, White Squall and Mighty Ducks 3.

David has also acted extensively on the stage, essaying roles in A Long Day's Journey Into Night, Much Ado About Nothing, The Crucible, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Henry IV, The Tempest, Brecht on Brecht, The Last Days of Lincoln, Ghandi, Brigadoon and The Heiress, amongst others.  In recent years, he has performed in several starring roles at the Connecticut Hartford Stage theatre.

In recent years, David Selby has worked as a writer, producing several plays, including Lincoln and James, in which he played Abraham Lincoln, and Where's Nova Scotia? He penned a poetry-based career retrospective, In and Out of the Shadows in 1999, followed by two poetry collections, My Mother's Autumn in 2000 and Happenstance in 2001. David's love of classic storytelling and the positive power of myth recently saw him spearhead an animation aimed at children, The Griffin and the Canon, in his native West Virginia, for which he also provided voice of the eponymous Griffin.

He is currently engaged in producing a personal website, located at davidselby.com.

In 2003, David reprised Quentin in the Return to Collinwood reunion audio play. David was a key figure in the play's conception, and the scipt was written by his son Jamison. In 2006, she again reprised the role for Big Finish's series of Dark Shadows CD audio dramas.
