Lynn Dovel appeared as an extra in the Blue Whale on the show in 1967 and recently got in contact with the site. Here are some of her memories...

I have a question for you. Why do you think Dark Shadows has become such a cult hit? The thing I most remember about the show was that it was the first soap opera that I know of to feature supernatural creatures (i.e. vampires.) The day I appeared, in the Blue Whale as a customer, I remember Jonathan Frid being on the set - though I don't remember if he was in the Blue Whale scene I was or not - and seeing his vampire teeth. I did not speak to him.

The studio was a typical set-up, lights, cameras and cables all over. Hard to navigate sometimes. I remember the dress I wore, and the guys off-camera who kept rippling a pan of water to make the "sunlight on the waves" effect on the wall!

I was working as a Broadway show singer at that time and took other jobs during the day when I could. My friend Pat Lysinger, also a show performer, appeared in the same episode.

I did other things around that time that I remember much better: the Annie Get Your Gun revival with Ethel Merman at Lincoln Center and then at the Broadway Theater, appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show, the South Pacific revival with Florence Henderson, also at Lincoln Center, working as Barbara Streisand's double on a TV special...

It was a good, busy time for me. Lots of wonderful memories!
