Dark Shadows Scariest Moments is a 30 minute creepy compilation culled from the original series. Angelique (Lara Parker) appears on the front cover baring fangs to appropriately convey the content. As the show's demonic diva, Ms. Parker's lovely looks rival the best of the show's evil standards, yet she masterfully sends chills cascading down your spine and possesses the monopoly on negotiating nightmares, especially in a memorable animated corpse sequence.

Elsewhere, there's the most graphic grab of footage when Louis Edmonds as Edward Collins hammers a stake into the heart of Vampire Dirk Wilkins (Roger Davis) just as he awakens. Other horrific highlights feature many unforgettable characters including central figure Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) during his terrifying vampiric transformations, house hauntings, and secret stalkings.

Minus modern technology, the production team's ingenuity throws up some ambitious special effects with the miracle of Dick Smith's revolutionary make-up for the aged Barnabas and minor tour-de-forces on the technical side, allowing some impressive creative flourishes, such as a portrait's subject changing before one's very eyes.

Arguably, the only flaw in the fear factor is the absence of Thayer David's Count Petofi, with his stand-out malevolent magic. MPI's shudder showcase is just a small, but comprehensive, sample of what helped to make Dark Shadows such an enduring success.
