Movie Rumours |
July
19 2002 |
TV
Guide Online's Ask Flick Chick column for July
18 features comments from Dark Shadows creator Dan
Curtis
confirming that a new movie is in development: "We
are working on making that happen," he said. "We
have people who are interested in providing financing and
we're having a lot of conversations. Will it happen? I can't
say, but it's a possibility. Do you want to hear something
funny? We'd heard for ages that Johnny Depp always wanted
to play Barnabas Collins, so we checked into it, and lo
and behold, depending on the script, it is something he'd
like to do. I'd
also very much like to work with [screenwriter] Steven de
Souza, and we've had a lot of fun talking about it."
"Dark
Shadows has an undying audience—the show never goes
away. It's running on Sci Fi Channel and 40 episodes were
recently put out on a four-disc DVD set — I understand they
sold out within days and [MPI Home Video] had to go back
for a second printing. Never in my life did I imagine that
the show would still be around."

| A
Word from Kathryn Leigh Scott |
July
17 2002 |
Actress
Kathryn Leigh Scott has offered some thoughts on
the recent Festival, which she has asked us to share: "To
all of you who joined us at this year's Dark Shadows
summer festival in Anaheim, didn't we have a great time
together? I thought the whole weekend was just fabulous.
And to all of you who couldn't attend this year, please
join us next summer back in New York the first weekend in
Augustwe'll make it better than ever.
Those
who have attended any of our past Sunday night festival
banquets know that I always toast Jim Pierson and all the
volunteers who make these weekends possible. One of the
reasons all of us enjoy the festivals so much is that these
events are always so well organized, so well run. This year
I didn't get a chance to make my toast in person, but I'm
grateful the names of all the volunteers were announced
and applauded. You all did a great job!
As
one of the Dark Shadows actors, I especially want
to salute Jim Pierson, who coordinates all of our activities
and appearances throughout the yearit's never easy!
Somehow he always manages to juggle schedules and check
everything out beforehand to make sure everything will be
handled professionally and that we're spared the glitches,
delays and confusion that can so often mar these occasions.
We can also depend upon Jim, working through Dan Curtis
Productions, to vet everything thoroughly so that anything
involving Dark Shadows will be something we can always
be proud of. That, too, isn't easy.
We're
very grateful to Jim for taking a tough stand recently when
it became obvious that a television production company was
resorting to sleazy, erroneous and misleading tactics in
editing a documentary about the show. Many of us who participated
were outraged when we realized the direction this production
was taking-but Jim was way ahead of us and had already taken
steps to prevent the production from being aired. We were
shown a sample of the unfinished documentary at the Sunday
night banquetthe most objectionable segments had already
been cut. I hope that the comments Jim, Marie Wallace and
I made at the conclusion of the screening satisfied any
questions audience members may have had. The documentary
was full of inaccuracies and was not to be taken as a true
or proper representation.
We
always try to present new things and a surprise or two at
each festival to make it memorable. The Dark Shadows
actors enjoy getting together with each other and with all
of you, and we aim to make each festival special for all
of us. See you next year in New York!
All
the best
Kathryn
Leigh Scott"

Dark Shadows Festival |
July
10 2002 |
The
2003 Dark Shadows Festival will be held over the
weekend of August 8-10 June 2002. Next year sees a return
to the "New York [area]... with an extra special,
first-time ever surprise. The final venue should be announced
by August. Website: darkshadowsfestival.com.
ShadowGram
reports: Some misinformation and misunderstandings have
circulated regarding the conclusion of the 2002 Festival
dinner with the screening of an aborted Dark Shadows
documentary shown exclusively for the dinner audience.
Festival director Jim Pierson informed the audience
before and after the screening that the program was incomplete
and that the show had taken liberties with facts and situations
in addition to exaggerating and misrepresenting certain
incidents. The documentary was produced in an "over-the-top
style" similar to E's True Hollywood Story. It
was explained the documentary had misinformation and was
clearly not to be taken seriously. Kathryn Leigh Scott
and Marie Wallace spoke after the screening to
also express their feelings and to reiterate the documentary's
inaccurate nature. Both Kathryn and Marie are supportive
of the Festival. They enjoyed the Anaheim gathering, and
along with the other cast members are looking forward
to next year's Festival."
